BERRYMAN & HENIGAR AWARDED WATER RESOURCES CONTRACT FROM SARASOTA COUNTY

TAMPA, FL, Nov. 1, 2004 -- Berryman & Henigar has been awarded a three-year water resources engineering contract from Sarasota County, FL. Scott Kvandal, president of Berryman & Henigar, made the announcement.

According to Theresa Connor, General Manager-Water Resources for Sarasota County, (population is 330,000; county seat is Sarasota) Berryman & Henigar is implementing a wide variety of tasks to help address specific water-related issues, some of which include stormwater runoff, sedimentation, nitrogen content and other performance standards used to measure water quality.

Connor added that the county recently completed a 50-year growth plan. She said a water resource management plan is critical for determining how to better utilize undeveloped land.

Elie Araj, Berryman & Henigar senior vice president who is supervising the program, said the integrated water resource program is helping to capture fresh water resources (stormwater, surface water flows) and reuse them upstream in the watershed.

"Currently there is too much fresh water inflow to the sensitive coastal estuarine ecosystems," Araj said. "We're working closely with the county to best determine how to recycle stormwater for irrigation needs as right now it all goes out into the bay, and help with the sedimentation problems downstream."

Berryman & Henigar provides municipal management consulting, civil engineering, public finance, building safety, asset management, and program and construction management to public agencies. Further information is available online at www.bhiinc.com.
