MACTEC WINS THREE-YEAR CONTRACT FROM GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES

ALPHARETTA, GA, Nov. 29, 2004 -- MACTEC, Inc. has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Environmental Protection Division (EPD) for underground storage tank (UST) technical support. The initial contract is for one year with an option to renew for two additional years. Bruce C. Coles, president of MACTEC Engineering & Construction (MACTEC E&C) and chairman & CEO of MACTEC, Inc., the holding company (www.mactec.com) - made the announcement.

According to MACTEC Program Manager William H. Murdy, P.G., the firm will be providing a wide variety of services covering petroleum contaminated sites eligible for the State Trust Fund and 'orphan' sites funded by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) grants. The State Trust Fund covers corrective action costs at eligible UST sites for which owners/operators have participated in the Fund and have opted to refer their case to the GUST Contractor Program. Orphan sites are UST sites that have no current owner, operator or other responsible party; EPA provides LUST grants to states, including Georgia, to fund corrective action at these orphan sites.

Tasks will include:

  • Identifying sensitive receptors such as potable wells, streams and springs
  • Pilot testing (conducted to determine the proper type/size of remediation equipment needed to clean up a site)
  • Risk assessments
  • Soil and groundwater investigations
  • Subsurface remediation

A team of about a dozen employees from MACTEC's Atlanta and Kennesaw offices will be assigned to the program. MACTEC is now the only consultant in Georgia holding three major EPD contracts - ambient air monitoring; Hazardous Site Response Act (HSRA) short-term removal; and UST technical support.

MACTEC, based in Alpharetta, GA, is a $436 million environmental, engineering, construction management, and infrastructure services firm with 3,000 employees in over 100 offices nationwide.
