MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS, BARCELONA, Feb. 16, 2009 -- Imagination Technologies, the multimedia chip technologies company, is demonstrating an evaluation system of the ENSIGMA UCCP310, the first IP offering based on the latest UCC Series3 architecture, at MWC 2009. ENSIGMA UCCP310 is the first IP platform to support WiFi connectivity and all major TV, digital radio and mobile TV broadcast standards in a single programmable IP core.
The ENSIGMA UCCP310 is the first IP platform based on UCC Series3, the third generation of the architecture at the heart of the market leading ENSIGMA UCCP multi-standard programmable communications IP platform family, which delivers market-leading performance and ultra low power in a small silicon area.
Tony King-Smith, VP marketing, Imagination says: "We are excited to be demonstrating UCCP310 for the first time at MWC 2009. This is the first core utilizing our new UCC Series3 architecture, which is set to redefine the cost-effectiveness of integrating multiple radios into high volume consumer products. By replacing not only multiple receivers but also WiFi and other radios such as Bluetooth, we believe UCC Series3 based radios will set the pace for connectivity in mobile phones."
With the announcement of the ENSIGMA UCCP310, Imagination also intends to extend the range of development partners it works with to ensure that the exceptional programmability of the UCC Series3 architecture can be used to realize all possible connectivity and broadcast standards world-wide in the timeliest manner.
Continues King-Smith: "We are now calling for more partners to work with us to implement new standards on the UCC architecture, including modulation algorithms and protocol stacks, as part of a major push to expand our ecosystem of ENSIGMA Insider partners. We want to build on what we've learned with the success of our POWERVR Insider graphics ecosystem, building a strong community for the benefit of all our licensees and partners and delivering new business opportunities for companies supporting UCC."
The UCCP310 platform is designed to support the ever increasing number of standards for communications in a proven, highly-efficient and extraordinarily flexible programmable solution. It delivers multi-standard demodulation support for the 802.11a/b/g family of WiFi standards, class-leading support for digital TV (ATSC (8VSB), Nordig Unified 2.0 DVB-T, full-seg ISDB-T), mobile TV (DVB-H, T-DMB, 1-seg ISDB-T) and digital radio reception (3-seg ISDB-T, DAB, DAB+ and FM with RDS). Other key features include support for diversity, execution of multiple simultaneous standards, and expansion bus options.
Within the UCCP310 platform, UCC Series3's programmable radio technology provides physical layer demodulation and modulation. A separate 32-bit META MTX processor performs system housekeeping, manages data-link processing for DVB-H and 802.11a/b/g, and distributes data using the platform's own DMA controller.
Earlier versions of Imagination's UCC receiver architecture have already shipped in over 10 million units in the digital radio, TV and mobile TV markets.
The ENSIGMA UCCP310 IP platform is available for licensing now.
