GAUSS SELECTS SMARTSEARCH ONLINE

OCEANSIDE, CA, May 21, 2001 -- The North American headquarters of Gauss Interprise AG (http://www.gaussinterprise.com) has selected SmartSearch Online from Advanced Personnel Systems, Inc. (APS; http://www.aps2k.com). Doug Coull, APS' president, made the announcement.

Gauss, established in 1983, is a global leader in unified content management solutions. The publicly held company (traded on the Neuer Markt; symbol is GSO) is headquartered in Hamburg, Germany and Irvine, California. Annual revenues are about $31 million. Current customers include Agilent Technologies, Bayer, BMW, Daimler Chrysler Aerospace, Hewlett-Packard and Sun Microsystems. There are 500 employees with about 130 located in the company's Irvine office, which serves as North American headquarters.

According to George Young, staffing manager, Gauss had been manually processing resumes. But as the company began hiring additional employees, incoming resumes topped more than 1,200 each month.

"We went from hiring two people a month to five and had no internal tracking system," Young said. "We also had recently started an employee referral program that couldn't be managed without an automated system."

Young said Gauss investigated more than 60 products and conducted demos of eight systems before finally selecting SmartSearch Online. Principal reasons for choosing SmartSearch Online included:

  • Ability to manage Gauss' employee referral program. Young said SmartSearch Online's referral capabilities "could tie in a name to a resume very easily."

  • Ease of handling incoming resumes that Young could populate into the company's database.

  • SmartSearch Online acts as the company's employment page on Gauss' Web site.

"I can track candidates effortlessly and a department has the ability to look at their own recruiting activity," Young said. "In short, we now have an effective staffing management tool."

Young added that the company might eventually use SmartSearch Online worldwide.
