NOVA PIC SELECTS SMARTSEARCH ONLINE FROM APS

OCEANSIDE, CA, June 29, 1999 -- NOVA PIC has selected and implemented SmartSearch Online from Advanced Personnel Systems, Inc. (APS). The state-of-the-art Web-based system is providing NOVA PIC with instant Internet access to the company's resume database. Doug Coull, APS president, made the announcement.

SmartSearch Online interacts with APS' SmartSearch database, a job-driven, scanning-based, staffing management system. It features a 'user-friendly' interface and the system can be learned in minutes.

NOVA Private Industry Council is a provider for the Job Training Partnership Act, a federally funded employment and training program. Six California cities in Santa Clara County formed NOVA in 1983. NOVA PIC's mission is to provide no cost and efficient job training and employment programs for the cities of Cupertino, Los Altos, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Santa Clara and Sunnyvale.

"Our primary responsibilities are addressing the workforce preparation demands of northern Santa Clara County, and meeting the requirements of the Job Training Partnership Act (JPTA)," said Program Supervisor Judy Howell.

Howell began researching various staffing management systems before selecting APS.

"Before purchasing APS' services, we were manually processing the resumes and job orders from employers and it got to the point where we were literally overwhelmed with paperwork," Howell said. "In only a few months we have noticed a tremendous difference in productivity. We're able to process job orders much faster now and forward them to counselors responsible for filling the candidate pool of resumes."

She added that with the Automatch feature NOVA PIC can flag resumes that are appropriate for open jobs and automatically find them once the job parameters are defined.

"Eventually we'll also list groupings of employers and may even allow our clients to change and update information like addresses and phone numbers," Howell said. "And we're setting up passwords for employers so they can directly enter their jobs into the system. The bottom line is that SmartSearch Online gives us the flexibility we need and by freeing everyone from the daily drudgery of resume processing and fulfilling job orders, we can concentrate our efforts on helping employers and job applicants."

APS, established in 1985, is located in Oceanside, CA, about 30 miles north of San Diego. The firm pioneered scanning-based staffing management and has since become a nationwide industry leader in introducing optical scanning technology for resume retrieval, report generation and application tracking. In 1990, APS created SmartSearch, a jobs-driven, scanning-based staffing management system used by companies nationwide.
