BERRYMAN & HENIGAR HELPING PROVIDE SAFER ROADWAY FOR COUNTY

SAN DIEGO, CA, April 4, 2003 -- Berryman & Henigar has been awarded an engineering design contract from the County of San Diego for the Valley Center Road East project. Scott Kvandal, president of Berryman & Henigar, made the announcement.

Valley Center Road East extends from Cole Grade Road to the San Luis Rey River.

"The project provides a safer roadway and improved vehicular traffic operations and facilities for bicyclists and pedestrians," according to County Project Manager Brendan McNabb.

Total construction costs are estimated at $12 million; anticipated completion date for the plan preparation, environmental document and right-of-way acquisition is December 2006. Berryman & Henigar is now moving forward with Phase 1, expected to take about eight months and includes the following tasks:

  • Preliminary engineering report on the roadway
  • Studying alternative alignments and construction techniques
  • Preparing construction cost estimates
  • Evaluating alternatives
  • Conducting public outreach and workshops
  • Preparing aerial topography and photography of the six-mile alignment
  • Studying intersection designs at North Lake Wohlford (including a roundabout study)
  • Preparing a final report, including preliminary plans
