BERRYMAN & HENIGAR WINS $1.5 MILLION CONTRACT FROM CITY OF SAN DIEGO

SAN DIEGO, CA, May 7, 2001 -- The City of San Diego has selected Berryman & Henigar to provide design engineering services for Sewer and Water Group jobs. The company was selected from among a short list of six interviewed consulting firms. Scott Kvandal, president of Berryman & Henigar, made the announcement.

Tasks included in the two-year, $1.5 million contract include planning and design of 'group jobs' - community areas in need of water and/or sewer infrastructure upgrades primarily due to age or changing demand conditions.

According to Curt Lehnhoff, Berryman & Henigar project engineer, three major sewer design and planning projects are now underway.

"An important aspect of this project is that the City of San Diego has a significant number of sewer collection pipelines in canyon areas and other areas with limited access, many of which result in residential sewer laterals discharging to the rear of the property and into relatively inaccessible collector sewers," he said. "In an effort to improve system maintenance, the City has undertaken a concentrated effort to install new sewer collection lines underneath roads and 'replumb' residences to the front of the property to either new or existing collection pipelines."

"The City of San Diego is committed to improving and updating our water and sewer infrastructure over the next few years," said Jihad Sleiman, project manager for the City. "Berryman & Henigar will play a pivotal role in helping us achieve these objectives."
