BERRYMAN & HENIGAR AWARDED GENERAL ENGINEERING CONTRACT WITH CITY OF PALM COAST

PALM COAST, FL, May 19, 2004 -- Berryman & Henigar has been awarded a three-year general engineering contract from the City of Palm Coast, FL. Scott Kvandal, president of Berryman & Henigar, made the announcement.

"Having a local presence allows us to not only increase our responsiveness to Palm Coast, but other regional clients as well," Kvandal said. Some of these include St. Johns County, the City of St. Augustine, Florida Governmental Utilities Authority, Town of Interlachen and the Florida Department of Transportation-District 2.

"This brings my staff and I closer to many municipal clients we have been servicing," Coffey said. "We are very excited to become part of this growing community and look forward to work with the City of Palm Coast."

Palm Coast, about 40 miles south of Jacksonville, is one of Florida's fastest growing and newest cities. Incorporated only four years ago, the city has grown from approximately 32,000 residents in 2000 to more than 50,000 residents today.

"We are one of the last coastal communities to develop, and as such, are experiencing extremely rapid growth," said Palm Coast City Engineer William Tredik, P.E. "We're permitting more than 300 single-family residences each month and have approximately 20,000 undeveloped platted lots with available water and sewer."

Tredik said engineering consultants are needed to help with the increasing workload. Berryman & Henigar has already embarked upon two projects. The firm recently completed surveying and design for a shoulder paving/road widening and overlay which includes bike lanes along Palm Harbor Parkway, a four-mile long major collector road. The project also included addition of turn lanes to ease traffic congestion along growing parts of the Parkway. A traffic study is being conducted to investigate the possibility of a traffic light installation at one of the busiest intersections of the Parkway. The bike lanes will enable cyclists to ride from their homes to more areas of the City. Part of the City's Capital Improvement Program, the project is slated to begin construction the end of June. Construction costs are about $500,000.

Another similar project is underway for Pine Lakes Parkway and includes shoulder paving/road widening, addition of bike lanes, and building a pedestrian sidewalk along the roadway. Berryman & Henigar will provide surveying and civil engineering services. Construction will begin later this fall; construction costs are estimated at about $600,000.
