BERRYMAN & HENIGAR WINS GRANT PROJECT FROM CRYSTAL RIVER

CRYSTAL RIVER, FL, June 15, 2001 -- Berryman & Henigar has been awarded a contract from the City of Crystal River to implement a wastewater system master plan and facilities plan that will play a major role in keeping pollutants from entering nearby Kings Bay. Ray Berryman, chief executive officer of Berryman & Henigar made the announcement.

The Disadvantaged Small Communities Grant project is one of five projects being funded through a wastewater grant program from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. According to Buddy Holshouser, Crystal River's former public works director who is serving as a consultant to the city, the first phase of the $5 million project is now underway.

"The wastewater collection system will go a long way towards reducing pollutants which are leaching into Kings Bay and degrading the water quality," Holshouser said. "It will allow us to close 500 septic tanks around the bay - residents will then be connected to the city's central sewer system."

During the first phase, Berryman & Henigar will provide data collection and mapping services, evaluate existing wastewater system conditions/capacity and study alternatives for infrastructure construction. Chuck Pigeon, P.E., a Berryman & Henigar vice president who is supervising the project, said these may include innovative vacuum assisted or low pressure sewage collection systems and directional bore technology (which can be used to bore through rock and within the water table and doesn't disturb driveways, front yards or trees).

Berryman & Henigar has been providing consulting engineering services to the City of Crystal River since 1978. In 1992, the company designed and implemented a $4.6 million, 1.5 million gallons per day (MGD) wastewater treatment facility, which removed effluent discharge from Kings Bay. It's now disposed 4.5 miles north to a spray field and reused for agricultural hay production on the 125-acre parcel.

Berryman & Henigar, Inc. is a municipal professional services firm headquartered in San Diego, CA, with 15 offices nationwide, six of which are in Florida. The firm provides municipal engineering, public finance, asset management, community development, construction management and e-Government services to public agencies nationwide.
