BERRYMAN & HENIGAR WINS FIVE-YEAR AM/FM/GIS CONTRACT FROM ST. JOHNS COUNTY UTILITIES

ORLANDO, FL, Aug. 30, 2002 -- Berryman & Henigar has been selected by the St. Johns County Utility Department, St. Johns County, FL to provide Automated Mapping/Facilities Management/Geographic Information System (AM/FM/GIS) services. Ray Berryman, chief executive officer of Berryman & Henigar, made the announcement. The company was one of two selected out of 12 other firms for the five-year continuing services contract.

The Utility Department serves about one-third of the County's more than 123,000 residents. The County seat is St. Augustine. The county is one of the fastest growing in Florida and was created in 1832 when General Andrew Jackson, governor of the Territory of Florida, divided the state into two counties - the east was designated St. Johns County, the west Escambia County. Today, St. Johns County is approximately 608 square miles.

"We're currently converting our paper drawing files into a computer-based GIS to enhance our mapping and facilities management operations," said Kayle Moore, GIS Specialist II for St. Johns County Utility Department, which is responsible for reading, billing and collection of more than 15,000 service connections, reviews engineering drawings and performs inspections and surveys for new construction. "In addition, the department is using sub-meter Global Positioning System technology to map and inventory water and wastewater facilities."

Moore said Berryman & Henigar will initially develop a need assessment that evaluates the Utilities Department current asset/work order management workflow. It will establish a new workflow tailored around the use of GIS technology and help in developing an AM/FM/GIS production implementation plan.

When completed, the plan will include comprehensive recommendations for the following:

  • Data management
  • Field data collection
  • Hardware
  • Integration of legacy systems
  • Intranet and web-based data deployment
  • Inventory management/integration of various county utility functions with GIS (engineering design, systems modeling and planning, finance, demand analysis, rate analysis, CIP development)
  • Mapping
  • Software

Berryman & Henigar provides municipal engineering, public finance, asset management, community development, construction management and e-Government services to public agencies. Further information is available on the Web at www.bhiinc.com.
