BERRYMAN & HENIGAR WINS AM/FM/GIS CONTRACT FROM ALTAMONTE SPRINGS

ORLANDO, FL, Sept. 5, 2001 -- Berryman & Henigar has been awarded a $306,000 contract from the City of Altamonte Springs, FL to implement the City's AM/FM/GIS (Automated Mapping/Facilities Management/Geographic Information Systems) system. Ray Berryman, chief executive officer of Berryman & Henigar made the announcement.

Altamonte Springs, population 43,000, is located in Seminole County, about 10 miles north of Orlando. According to City Engineer Tom Helgeson, the first phase of the project includes data conversion, needs assessments, software/hardware installation, and training and integration between various City departments. The project is slated for completion late next year.

Helgeson said the system will provide Altamonte Springs with a comprehensive map and database of the City's infrastructure. The database will be built using 'COGO' (coordinate geometry) and will also be linked to the County Property Appraiser's office.

"It will enable us to improve our capabilities for handling a broad range of projects - utility work, roadway network, sidewalks, street lights, traffic signals, and more," Helgeson said. "The system will give us more effective maintenance activities documentation, help us with making decisions for capital planning of pavement and utility line rehabilitation and placement, and serve as a tool we can use to make better decisions regarding tax and rate payer funds."

Helgeson added that the system's database will allow Altamonte Springs to create sophisticated engineering models for hydraulic planning, water and reclaimed water systems expansion, and sewer extension projects. In addition, it will be an invaluable tool for City employees doing fieldwork because the City will be able to immediately respond to emerging conditions and will be able to shut down lines and bypass flows much faster.

"It will also help us satisfy GASB-34 requirements which requires that a public agency report on all capital assets," he said. "The system will bring us up another notch in our being able to respond to the infrastructure needs of the community."
