CITY OF LAGUNA WOODS SELECTS BERRYMAN & HENIGAR

SANTA ANA, CA, Oct. 12, 1999 -- The City of Laguna Woods, CA has awarded an engineering and inspection services contract to Berryman & Henigar. Ray Berryman, the company's chief executive officer, made the announcement.

Laguna Woods, population 20,000, is California's newest municipality, incorporated March 24, 1999. The city is about 45 miles south of Los Angeles and is adjacent to the Cities of Irvine, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills and Lake Forest. Laguna Woods is unique because of its demographics - 85 percent of it is situated in a retirement community surrounded by a commercial area.

Berryman & Henigar Senior Vice President William E. Stracker, P.E., said the firm is providing a wide range of services, including City Engineer, Traffic Engineer and Building Official.

"I'm serving as City and Traffic Engineer and consulting with the City Manager, department heads and the public on various engineering matters," Stracker said. "Another principal, Ray Schuller, is serving as Building Official. In addition, we are providing necessary engineering design, plans and specifications for construction, reviewing development proposals and administering construction contracts. The Berryman & Henigar team that will be available to the City is comprised of engineers, construction inspectors, surveyors, and development review specialists, all of whom have extensive Southern California municipal experience."

Laguna Woods City Manager Leslie Keane said Berryman & Henigar has already begun grading and improvement plan reviews for a 14-acre business park recently approved by the City Council. These include reviewing street improvements, utility easements, drainage devices, encroachment permits, and traffic flow. When completed, Town Center Laguna Woods will encompass a hotel, office building, restaurant and retail operations.
