BERRYMAN & HENIGAR AWARDED $1.5 MILLION CONTRACT FROM CITY OF FONTANA Firm Providing Street Widening and Rehabilitation Design Services

SAN DIEGO, CA, Dec. 7, 2001 -- Berryman & Henigar has been awarded a $1.5 million contract for the design of two street projects for the City of Fontana, CA. Scott Kvandal, president of Berryman & Henigar, made the announcement.

Fontana, population 128,929, is located about 50 miles east of Los Angeles. Berryman & Henigar will be providing a wide variety of services for the $16 million Baseline Avenue and Sierra Avenue street widening and rehabilitation projects. These include preliminary and final design, utility relocation, landscaping, storm drain, sewer, addressing funding requirements, bid phase services, surveying, right-of-way and construction support services.

Sierra Avenue is the City's main thoroughfare and is heavily traveled. It is estimated that 48,000 vehicles drive daily between San Bernardino Avenue and the I-10 Freeway. Baseline Avenue is another critical arterial that is experiencing an increase in traffic.

According to Fontana City Engineer Ricardo Sandoval, future plans call for development of a major portion of the undeveloped land in the northern part of Fontana.

"But before we do that the infrastructure has to be in place - this includes roadways, storm drain improvements for flood protection, and sewers," he said. "Both projects are federally funded with construction slated to begin in November 2002 and will be completed by Fourth Quarter 2004 because of contractual requirements of the funding approved by SANBAG (San Bernardino Associated Governments)."
