GALLAGHER, FLYNN & CO. SELECTS SMARTSEARCH ONLINE

OCEANSIDE, CA, Sept. 27, 2001 -- Gallagher, Flynn & Co., PLC, Vermont's largest independent business consulting firm, has selected SmartSearch Online from Advanced Personnel Systems, Inc. (APS; http://www.aps2k.com). Doug Coull, APS' president, made the announcement.

Gallagher, Flynn & Co. is a 35-year-old Burlington, VT-based firm with 60 employees. The company's Human Resources Division is also Vermont's largest recruitment service and HR consulting organization.

One of the firm's senior consultants, Kate McEachern, said Gallagher, Flynn's HR Division had been processing resumes manually.

"We provide executive recruitment services for our external clients locally, regionally and nationally. We also receive several thousand resumes each year and it was becoming a paper nightmare," McEachern said. "It was a hunt and peck system that pretty much relied on everyone's memory - we knew we needed a more seamless approach."

McEachern said the company looked at systems from five other companies before selecting SmartSearch Online from APS.

"It has made our lives much easier. We can remove duplicate resumes and combine notes in one common file. We're able to format resumes in RTF (Rich Text Format) which is important for us because we wanted to make sure our clients could see the original formatting of our candidates' resumes. And since many of us telecommute, we can all access the system from wherever we are," she said.

McEachern added that since she and her colleagues tend to be online a good portion of the day, it was crucial that the design was viewer-friendly.

"The menu screen is easy to look at," she said. "Other products we researched had annoying banner ads on the home page or the design was so bright you would get eyestrain. The muted colors are ideal if you have to spend long stretches of time on the computer."
