IMAGINATION TECHNOLOGIES DEMONSTRATES MULTI-STANDARD MOBILE TV IP PLATFORM AT CES 2007

LAS VEGAS, NV, Jan. 8, 2007 -- Imagination Technologies, a leader in system-on-chip intellectual property (SoC IP), is demonstrating its market-leading IP platform for multi-standard mobile TV demodulation. This multi-standard capability, developed using a novel balance of programmability and configurability, comes at no silicon area penalty compared to typical single-standard DVB-H demodulation solutions in the market, while providing leading levels of performance in all critical areas including sensitivity and doppler.

Already deployed in high-volume handsets in Asia and Europe Imagination Technologies' mobile TV IP platform has been licensed by several semiconductor partners.

Says David McBrien, VP of Sales, Imagination Technologies: "Imagination is delivering leading performance in the smallest die size. We challenge any fixed function design to match the efficiency of our multi-standard solution, which really does offer the best of all worlds in terms of balancing functionality, performance and size."

Imagination's IP platform enables devices to provide multiple standard support in the same country and roam between countries with different standards. Currently this IP platform provides the widest range of multi-standard support for Mobile TV, including, DVB-H, "One Seg" ISDB-T, Enhanced Packet Mode DAB, DAB-IP and T-DMB as well as DAB and FM radio. Support for other regional standards is in development. Market indicators suggest that each of the standards will succeed in different geographical areas.

Continues McBrien: "Our mobile TV IP platform is highly-integrated, delivering full baseband receiver functionality in a pre-verified subsystem and has been proven both in shipping silicon and FPGA. The ability to support current key standards and to add support for new standards in the future, at no silicon penalty, makes our solution the obvious choice for manufacturers wanting to reduce the number of different chips required to target the world mobile TV market."

The IP platform is unique in enabling multiple Mobile TV reception standards on a single device whilst being very competitive on power dissipation. With low system power requirements the IP platform provides the foundation of a highly-integrated mobile TV solution, reducing cost, design risk and time-to-market.

Built around Imagination's UCC Mobile (Universal Communications Core) signal processing engine, specifically developed for PHY layer demodulation, Imagination Technologies' mobile TV IP platform also integrates Imagination's MTX embedded controller for real-time system housekeeping as well as a DVB-H Link Layer and a flexible DMA engine.

Imagination Technologies also supplies a range of mobile video decoders and encoders supporting a wide range of standards including MPEG-2, MPEG-4, VC-1/WMV9, H.263 and H.264 video streams, at resolutions programmable up to HD, offloading the most costly stages in video processing from the CPU. This technology family enables mobile video that matches DVD for quality while requiring low-power consumption for long battery life on mobile video players.
