IMAGINATION TECHNOLOGIES DEMONSTRATES LATEST IP AT ARM DEVELOPERS' CONFERENCE 2007

SANTA CLARA, CA, Oct. 1, 2007 -- Imagination Technologies, a leader in system-on-chip intellectual property (SoC IP), is demonstrating its latest technologies for mass market consumer electronics applications at ARM Developers' Conference & Design Pavilion 2007 from October 2nd - 4th.

High points on Imagination Technologies' booth include an insight into: the future of in-car dashboard graphics; 3D user interfaces for set-top-boxes; world-standard mobile TV; shader-based mobile graphics and multi-standard HD video decode. Imagination will also be showing a wide range of phones enabled by the company's POWERVR MBX graphics technology, the de facto standard for mobile 3D acceleration.

Imagination Technologies IP targets emerging markets including: digital radio and audio; mobile phone multimedia; car navigation & information; personal navigation; UMPC and mobile Internet device; digital TV & set top box; and mobile TV.

Speaking Engagements

At the conference Imagination Technologies' Simon Hambly will present a paper, "Achieving HD Decoding with ARM Processors" (October 3rd 9:00 AM), examining the complexities faced by device manufacturers wanting high quality HD video on portable devices. See: www.rtcgroup.com/arm/2007.

Imagination Technologies' Kristof Beets and Peter McGuinness will also be presenting at the Khronos Mobile and Embedded Graphics Seminar (October 4th; in Main Ballroom from 9:00-10:45 AM). This session is free and open to all show attendees. See: www.khronos.org.

At the co-located Portable Design conference Imagination's Peter McGuinness will be presenting "Implications of Multimedia Convergence for Portable Design: What OEMs Need to Know" (October 3rd, 3:30 PM). See: www.portabledesignconference.com.

Graphics Demonstrations

At ARM Dev Con 2007, Imagination Technologies will be demonstrating some firsts on its POWERVR MBX graphics technology, including HD 3D applications, with a 3D High Definition User Interface for consumer set-top-box devices.

POWERVR SGX evaluation silicon will be used to show the next generation of mobile and embedded graphics capability. OpenGL ES 2.0 and PowerVR SGX bring significant advancements to gaming, user interfaces, entertainment and navigation, building on the outstanding capabilities of the de-facto standard POWERVR MBX graphics technologies already adopted by manufacturers for the majority of current 3D enabled devices.

A wide range of navigation, gaming, visualization and UI demonstrations will be shown on the latest POWERVR MBX enabled phones including models from Motorola, Nokia, DoCoMo and Sony Ericsson.

Announced licensees of Imagination's graphics technologies include Intel, TI, Renesas, Freescale, NEC, Samsung, Sunplus, Centrality/SiRF, Marvell, NXP and others.

Video Demonstrations

Imagination's POWERVR VXD370 multi-standard, HD video decode core is being demonstrated at the show in FPGA.

POWERVR VXD370 is capable of efficiently decoding H.264, VC-1(WMV 9), DivX, MPEG-4, H.263, MPEG-2, MPEG-1, JPEG at resolutions including 720p, 1080i and 1080p.

Because POWERVR VXD370 is a highly optimized architecture, with a stream processor to analyse the incoming video bit-stream and reconfigure flexible multi-mode decode modules in the core accordingly, there are huge benefits in reducing silicon area and power consumption - particularly as a large proportion of the processing logic is common for the many video standards supported by the core.

As an example, in a 90nm 133MHz implementation power consumption for the core is in the range of 30mW to 45mW for decoding high definition MPEG-2 main profile and high definition H.264 high profile.

POWERVR VXD370 supports all HD resolutions and may be configured to support multiple stream decode allowing rich picture-in-picture options such as Electronic Program Guide (EPG) grids of sub-videos for easy channel selection by the user.

POWERVR MVED1 Video Acceleration will be showcased in partner silicon. MVED1 is a multi-standard video encode/decode accelerator for applications including handheld multimedia players and mobile TV.

POWERVR MVED1 accelerates the encode and/or decode of H.264, MPEG-4, H.263, MPEG-2 and VC-1 (WMV9) video streams, offloading from the host software key CPU-intensive functions. The reduction in CPU load achieved can be over 90%, depending on the stream content and video coding standard in use, allowing the system designer to target lower cost and lower power systems.

Announced licensees of Imagination's video technologies include NEC, Centrality/SiRF, Frontier Silicon, Sharp, Marvell and Intel.

Receiver Demonstrations

Imagination's ENSIGMA UCC multi-standard receiver core is the leading receiver technology for DAB digital radio and multi-standard mobile TV. The solution delivers market-leading features and performance, enabling multi-standard broadcast reception from the same silicon area as a single-standard chip.

UCC is being demonstrated at the show at the heart of a multi-standard mobile TV receiver platform, in which it is coupled with Imagination's META processing core to enable effective real-time broadcast receiver devices. The META family of multithreaded RISC/DSP processor cores is specifically designed for high performance real time operation at low clock speeds, making the best possible use of memory bandwidth and providing exceptional tolerance of system latencies.

Imagination's multi-standard mobile TV platform now supports the widest range out of any available solutions, including: DVB-H, 1seg ISDB-T, Enhanced Packet Mode DAB, DAB-IP and T-DMB, as well as DVB-T for digital television and DAB and FM for radio. Support for 3seg and 13seg ISDB-T, as well as other regional standards, is in advanced development.

Announced licensees of Imagination's receiver technologies include Mavrix, Future Waves, Frontier Silicon and Sharp.
