LAWGIBB WINS $1.2 MILLION CONTRACT FOR NEW REDS BALL PARK

CINCINNATI, OH, July 17, 2001 -- LAWGIBB Group has been retained in association with Resource International, Inc. to provide material testing and inspection for Great American Ball Park, the future home of the Cincinnati Reds. Doug Baum, LAWGIBB branch manager, made the announcement. LAWGIBB/Resource International, Inc. are subcontracted to Parsons Brinckerhoff and Hamilton County, OH on the $1.2 million contract.

Great American Ball Park will open in 2003. The ballpark is part of a $2 billion planned development along Cincinnati's riverfront entertainment corridor. The $280 million, one million square-foot stadium will seat 42,036 fans (with more than 19,000 field level seats).

The main structure will consist of reinforced concrete and structural steel support on auger-cast (cast in-place) concrete piles. Part of the structure will also serve as a floodwall. Cast limestone and 85,000 square-feet of brick on the façade of the outer buildings at the streetscape will complement the surrounding architecture. Key features of the ballpark and adjacent facilities are anticipated to include:

Historic mosaics - Will be at the entrance of the Ball Park. To feature two large mosaic panels, one of an older era Reds team; a second of the famed Big Red Machine teams of the mid-1970s.
Hall of Fame - Will be a year-round facility and have a wide variety of permanent and traveling exhibits highlighting top Reds players since the team's inception more than a century ago.
4192 - A special marker on the spot where Pete Rose hit his 4,192nd hit that broke Ty Cobb's all-time hits record. Will be situated within a rose garden accessible from outside the ballpark.
The Clock - To be on the top of the main scoreboard - will be a replica of the Longines clock from Crosley Field.

LAWGIBB will perform testing and inspection for the embankment, masonry inspection, reinforced steel, concrete, structural steel, pre-cast concrete, natural stone, concrete and asphalt pavements, roof installation and fireproofing. The company will review mix designs for all concrete and asphalt for conformance with project specifications, and inspect all formwork and reinforcing steel prior to placement of concrete.

"We'll also perform all required special inspections of onsite and offsite improvements as required by the 1998 Ohio Building Code and the City of Cincinnati," Baum said. "This includes the plant inspections for all of the fabricated and precast structural members and seismic inspections required by the Building Code."
