MACTEC COMPLETES STORMWATER PERMIT APPLICATIONS FOR THREE OHIO CITIES

CINCINNATI, OH, April 15, 2003 -- MACTEC Engineering & Consulting (MACTEC E&C) has completed the permit applications for the second phase of Ohio's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit program for the Cities of Franklin, Middletown and Monroe. Bruce C. Coles, president of MACTEC E&C and chairman & CEO of MACTEC, Inc. (www.mactec.com) made the announcement.

The City of Franklin, population 11,396, is located along the Great Miami River in Warren County, in the rapidly developing Cincinnati-Dayton corridor. The City of Middletown is an industrial community with a population of 51,605, also located along the Great Miami River in Butler County. The City of Monroe is in Butler County and has a population of 7,133.

According to Peter Soltys, a Cincinnati-based MACTEC regional technical adviser/stormwater engineer, the applications consisted of a notice of intent and a stormwater management plan to be covered under Ohio's general permit. The NPDES program, established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), seeks to reduce the amount of pollution that reaches rivers and streams through stormwater runoff.

The stormwater management plan identified the activities that the cities will implement over the next five years to address the six minimum control measures required by the EPA. These include:

  • Construction site runoff control
  • Illicit discharge, detention and elimination
  • Municipal good housekeeping and pollution control
  • Post-construction runoff control
  • Public education and outreach
  • Public participation
MACTEC, based in Alpharetta, GA, is a $524 million environmental, engineering, construction management, and infrastructure services firm with 4,000 employees in over 100 offices nationwide.
