San Francisco City Agencies Join MACTEC in Celebrating Two Years of Project Field Activity without an Injury

SAN FRANCISCO, May 21, 2010 – MACTEC, in conjunction with Brownfield Partners, LLC, recently held a Safety Day program commemorating more than 60,000 hours without an injury at a Universal Paragon Corporation (UPC) 20-acre-mixed use redevelopment site in San Francisco. Ann Massey, CEO of MACTEC, Inc., (www.mactec.com), made the announcement.

The site was formerly a Schlage Lock Company facility and is located near Candlestick Park and U.S. 101, south of downtown San Francisco.  Schlage manufactured door hardware and lock parts on portions of the site from 1926-1999.   Demolition of most of the site buildings and foundations was completed last January.  The first round of groundwater remediation was finished in March.

“The ongoing remedial efforts are providing the foundation for UPC’s $450 million development project, which will significantly contribute toward the economic revitalization of the Visitation Valley,” said Chris Miller, MACTEC Director of Projects-Western Division.

Miller added that for the Safety Day program, MACTEC and Brownfield Partners coordinated with the local Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT), the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD), San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) and the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) in conducting various demonstrations.

Some of these included a K-9 unit, a mounted unit, an SFPD ‘talking car’, an SFFD engine company, and a radio-controlled car course to demonstrate cell phone distraction.
