MACTEC WINS ACEC ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR ATLANTIC STATION PROJECT

ALPHARETTA, GA, June 7, 2006 - MACTEC Engineering & Consulting (MACTEC E&C) has won a 2006 Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) for its work on the Atlantic Station brownfield redevelopment project. Bruce C. Coles, president of MACTEC E&C and chairman & CEO of MACTEC, Inc., the holding company (www.mactec.com) made the announcement.

ACEC comprises 51 state and regional councils that represent the engineering industry. There are more than 5,500 member firms, which employ more than 300,000 engineers, architects, land surveyors, scientists and other specialists.

MACTEC received an Honor Award from ACEC at its annual awards gala, recently held in Washington, D.C. Honorary chairs included House Speaker Dennis Hastert, House Majority Leader John A. Boehner, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, and Senators William H. Frist and Harry Reid.

MACTEC, working closely with Atlantic Station, L.L.C (composed of Jacoby Development Inc. and AIG Global Real Estate Investment Corp.), various business and community groups, and state and federal regulatory agencies, served as the environmental, design, geotechnical, and construction management engineer for Atlantic Station.

Atlantic Station, underutilized for almost 20 years after the steel industry declined, is now serving as a model for environmental sustainability and to emphasize economic benefits, which include 20,000 new jobs, $619 million in total salaries, 10,000 new urban residences, and several million dollars of annual tax revenues for Atlanta and Fulton County. In addition to the ACEC Honor Award, the project has also garnered both regional and national brownfield redevelopment awards from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Atlantic Station (www.atlanticstation.com) was the site of the first steel mill in Georgia, the Atlanta Steel Hoop Company. It planted roots in Atlanta in 1901 and prospered as the city grew around it, making cotton bale ties and barrel hoops from recycled scrap steel. The site was used for steel making and steel-product finishing operations for nearly 100 years.
