ALPHARETTA, GA, June 25, 2009 -- MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc., has been awarded a $13,335,804 firm fixed price architect and engineering contract for design of a new base entry point at Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, NC. The project is a joint venture with Raleigh, NC-based Rummel, Klepper & Kahl, LLP. Allen Kibler, President of MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc., (www.mactec.com), made the announcement.
The proposed entry point will help mitigate traffic congestion resulting from the recent 'Grow the Force Initiatives' at Camp Lejeune. The design includes 6.5 miles of new four lane roadway, three major interchanges and three major bridges crossings. The contract also contains several options, which if exercised would increase the cumulative contract value to $14,530,082.
Camp Lejeune, located near Jacksonville, NC in Onslow County, is home to the II Marine Expeditionary Force, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Logistics Group and other combat units and support commands. The 246-square mile base generates about $3 billion in commerce each year (from payrolls and contracts).
According to MACTEC/RKK Joint Venture Project Director Jesse R. Barker, the joint venture will provide detailed working drawings, specifications and cost estimates for competitive bidding for the new base entry point and access roads. The comprehensive planning and design effort will address key issues such as roadway alignment; intersections; interchanges; location of the pass office; bridge design. Services will include traffic studies, bathymetric surveys development of corridor-wide concept plans execution of a fast tracked environmental permitting processes; and close coordination with the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the City of Jacksonville NC.
