MACTEC SELECTED TO PERFORM REMEDIATION EFFORTS FOR 600-ACRE MIXED-USE REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, July 11, 2008 -- MACTEC, Inc. has been selected by Universal Paragon Corporation (UPC) in conjunction with Brownfield Partners, LLC to manage environmental liability, conduct environmental remediation, and oversee demolition activities at the northern portion of a 600-acre, mixed-use redevelopment site in San Francisco. Ann E. Massey, President and Chief Executive Officer of MACTEC, Inc., the holding company (www.mactec.com), made the announcement.

The site was formerly a Schlage Lock Company facility currently owned by Ingersoll Rand, and is located near the San Francisco 49ers' Monster Park and U.S. 101, just south of San Francisco. Schlage manufactured door hardware and lock parts on portions of the site from 1926-1999. Manufacturing processes over the years included stamping and machining metal alloys; deburring brass, bronze, nickel, silver and steel parts; and electroplating.

According to MACTEC Vice President Richard J. Manser, P.G., who is overseeing local project implementation, the demolition and remedial actions will position the site for commercial and multi-family residential redevelopment, as well as use as public open space.

"Our initial 30-month remedial effort provides the foundation for UPC's $450 million development project, which will ultimately give a great push toward the economic recovery of the Visitacion Valley" said Chris Miller, MACTEC Western Region Project Director, and program manager for this project.

Brownfield Partners, LLC assumed environmental liability for the property from UPC and will manage demolition of the structures in advance of the environmental remediation. Brownfield Partners, LLC has obtained regulatory support for the project and has put insurance in place to cover the environmental risks. The company will partner with MACTEC in the restoration of the site.

"MACTEC's remedial strategy addresses the cleanup of contaminated soil, soil vapor, and groundwater that will meet UPC's site development objectives and risk-based cleanup standards set by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control," Manser said.
