MACTEC AWARDED CITY OF ATLANTA BROWNFIELDS CONTRACT

ALPHARETTA, GA, Aug. 2, 2004 -- MACTEC Engineering & Consulting (MACTEC E&C) has been awarded a contract from the City of Atlanta to serve as principal brownfields consultant. Bruce C. Coles, president of MACTEC E&C and chairman & CEO of MACTEC, Inc., the holding company (www.mactec.com) - made the announcement.

MACTEC will assist the City in redeveloping brownfield sites throughout the Atlanta region. Tasks will include brownfield consulting, environmental site assessments and program development. The firm will work closely with the City in revitalizing and transforming underutilized and/or abandoned properties and redeveloping them for productive, sustainable uses.

MACTEC has extensive local brownfields expertise, most notably the 138-acre Atlanta Station development in midtown Atlanta, one of the largest brownfield redevelopment projects in the United States. MACTEC provided environmental, geotechnical, remediation strategy/design, regulatory agency negotiation, and site development/infrastructure engineering services. When completed, the $2 billion mixed-use community will comprise 5 million square feet of office space; 1.2 million square feet of retail/entertainment space; 2,400 housing units; and a multi-modal bridge. The project is also the first of its kind nationwide to be approved under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Project XL (Excellence and Leadership) program.
