ALPHARETTA, GA, Aug. 5, 2009 -- The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has awarded MACTEC a one-year, $3 million contract with two additional one year renewal options to provide a wide variety of environmental services at various underground storage tank sites statewide. Allen Kibler, President of MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc., (www.mactec.com), made the announcement.
DNR has statewide responsibilities for the management and conservation of Georgia's natural and cultural resources. Most of this work is conducted by DNR's six operating divisions which include: Coastal Resources Division, Environmental Protection Division, Historic Preservation Division, Pollution Prevention Assistance Division, Parks, Recreation & Historic Sites Division and Wildlife Resources Division. The Board of Natural Resources, which is appointed by the Governor, oversees rulemaking for the agency.
The contract falls under DNR's Environmental Protection Division's Underground Storage Tank Management Program. Major work tasks to be performed include the following;
According to MACTEC Vice President and Southeast Area Manager David Goershel, the contractor program was created to assess and remediate underground storage tank releases at facilities where either the owner/operator can't fund the work upfront or a responsible party can't be located.
