MACTEC COMPLETES SITE EVALUATION PROJECT FOR MAJOR STEEL MANUFACTURER

ALPHARETTA, GA, Sept. 5, 2007 -- MACTEC Engineering & Consulting (MACTEC E&C) has completed a major site evaluation and environmental permitting project for ThyssenKrupp Steel and Stainless USA. Bruce C. Coles, president of MACTEC E&C and chairman & CEO of MACTEC, Inc., the holding company (www.mactec.com) - made the announcement.

With annual sales of almost $61 billion and 188,000 employees in over 70 countries, ThyssenKrupp A.G., a German corporation, is one of the world's major technology groups. The three main business areas of steel, capital goods and services are organized in five segments - Steel, Stainless, Technologies, Elevator and Services. ThyssenKrupp has 25,000 employees in the U.S. and annual sales in FY 2005-2006 of $9.7 billion.

According to MACTEC Assistant Vice President Nick Schmitt, MACTEC evaluated eight candidate sites in the Southeast during the site selection process. Services provided included site development, environmental permitting, conceptual grading plans, water, wastewater and energy consulting, preliminary geotechnical explorations, wetland delineations, cultural and natural resources assessments, mineral rights evaluation, and air permitting. Once the site was finally selected, MACTEC also then served as a liaison between ThyssenKrupp and Alabama economic development and technical teams.

The $3.7 billion steel manufacturing and processing facility will be located in Calvert, AL, located in Mobile County. Operations are slated to begin in 2010. The construction phase of the facility is expected to generate up to 29,000 jobs. When fully operational the plant will employ 2,700 people. The state-of-the-art facility will manufacture and process carbon steel and stainless steel for the automotive, electrical and utility industries, and manufacturers of appliances, precision machinery and engineered products. The plant complex will include a hot strip mill that will process slabs from ThyssenKrupp's steel plant in Brazil, and a stainless steel melt shop, that will produce 4.1 million metric tons of carbon steel and up to 1 million metric tons of stainless steel per year.
