MACTEC WINS GDOT INTERCHANGE CONTRACT

ALPHARETTA, GA, Oct. 29, 2004 -- MACTEC, Inc. has been awarded a $757,567 contract from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to develop construction plans and specifications for the State Route 10 Loop and Peter Street/Olympic Drive interchange project in Athens, GA. Bruce C. Coles, president of MACTEC Engineering & Construction (MACTEC E&C) and chairman & CEO of MACTEC, Inc., the holding company (www.mactec.com) - made the announcement.

According to MACTEC Transportation Group Manager Paul Weldon, P.E., in the past decade, new developments have transformed the area from undeveloped to a rapidly growing mix of residential, multi-family and commercial development.

The project will raise the mainline SR 10 Loop alignment over Peter Street/Olympic Drive. Peter Street is a major access route into downtown Athens and to University of Georgia parking facilities located around the perimeter of the campus.

The interchange will consist of a southbound quarter cloverleaf while the three remaining ramps will be in a compressed diamond configuration. Typical sections will have four lanes, two in each direction, with curb and gutter, separated by a 32' raised median. Turn lanes will be provided at the proposed park entrance and at the SR 10 Loop ramps. Estimated construction costs are $10.3 million and the project is slated for construction in Fiscal Year 2008.

MACTEC, based in Alpharetta, GA, is a $436 million environmental, engineering, construction management, and infrastructure services firm with 3,000 employees in over 100 offices nationwide.
