MACTEC AWARDED NAVY PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT SERVICES CONTRACT

GAINESVILLE, FL, Nov. 12, 2003 -- MACTEC, Inc.(www.mactec.com) has been awarded a contract from the U.S. Navy, Southern Division Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC SOUTHDIV) to provide professional support services for air and radon survey projects in 26 states nationwide.

According to Senior Principal Scientist Bill Barnard, who is serving as project manager, the contract is for one year with four option years not to exceed $5 million over five years. A 20-person team based in MACTEC's Gainesville office is handling the project work.

At Naval Air Station Jacksonville and Navy Depot Jacksonville, MACTEC is providing a full suite of air compliance services including conducting emissions inventories, audits, and preparing semiannual and annual compliance status reports for their multiple National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAPs).

MACTEC is also performing similar work for the Texas-based Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD), which is a tenant activity of the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi. In addition to the types of activities being performed in Jacksonville, Barnard said MACTEC is helping CCAD to revise and implement their operation and maintenance plan for the chrome scrubbers in CCAD's state-of-the-art Advance Metal Finishing Facility (AMFF). These scrubbers control the emissions from CCAD's chromium electroplating and anodizing operations, which are conducted to provide additional hardness, corrosion resistance, and improved paint adhesion to various steel and aluminum helicopter parts.

"We're also helping Jacksonville and CCAD with necessary state and federal permitting requirements and are formulating a comprehensive database to help maintain compliance with applicable regulations," Barnard said.

Major services MACTEC is performing at various naval facilities include:

  • Emission source identification and quantification;
  • Compliance evaluation and recommendation for corrective action;
  • Construction and operating permit preparation;
  • Developing, implementing NESHAP compliance programs;
  • Stack testing of emissions;
  • Control equipment design and costing;
  • Dispersion modeling;
  • Inventory and development of risk management plans under CAA Section 112r;
  • Modification of existing Access/Oracle databases used for tracking and reporting emission information as well as developing new databases for emissions tracking;
  • Identification, design and costing of refrigeration and HVAC equipment for compliance with Title VI of the 1990 Clean Air Act.

MACTEC, based in Alpharetta, GA, is a $410 million environmental, engineering, construction management, and infrastructure services firm with 3,500 employees in over 100 offices nationwide. The firm has operated in Gainesville for more than 20 years, serving a wide variety of public and private sector clients.
