MACTEC WINS $5 MILLION CONTRACT WITH VETERANS ADMINISTRATION

WASHINGTON, D.C., Nov. 15, 2003 -- MACTEC, Inc. (www.mactec.com) has been awarded a five-year, $5 million maximum contract from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide a variety of professional services for the National Cemetery Administration (NCA). NCA is one of three administrations within the VA.

According to MACTEC Senior Project Manager Joseph D. Myers, R.A., who is supervising the project, services include real estate consultation, environmental impact studies, geotechnical engineering, architecture, stone restoration, and landscape architecture.

"With the need to bury veterans meeting a maximum peak by 2008, expansion of existing cemeteries and the design of new cemeteries is critical to our mission, which is to bury veterans with dignity and honor," said NCA Project Management Service Director Frederick Neun. "Additionally, maintaining existing national cemeteries as 'national shrines' is a primary mission of NCA."

Neun added that the areas identified for new national cemeteries include Atlanta, Detroit, Miami, Oklahoma City, Pittsburgh and Sacramento. Also, a recent study has expanded this list to include Philadelphia, Jacksonville, Sarasota County (FL), Birmingham, AL, Greenville/Columbia, SC, and Bakersfield, CA. He said NCA also recently finished construction of a new cemetery in Fort Sill, OK.
