MACTEC Demonstrates Commitment to Energy and Water Efficiency through EPA/DOE “Labs for the 21st Century”

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, Dec. 23, 2010 -- MACTEC has demonstrated its commitment to energy and water efficiency by becoming a Labs for the 21st Century (Labs21®) Supporter, a joint U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) program.  Allen Kibler, President of MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc., (www.mactec.com), made the announcement.

Labs21 (www.labs21century.gov), a voluntary partnership program, is dedicated to improving the environmental performance of U.S. laboratories.  Because of stringent ventilation requirements and other health and safety concerns, the average laboratory uses at least five times as much energy as a typical office building.

According to MACTEC Vice President Greg Pagett, the firm currently provides operations and maintenance services to the EPA’s Research Triangle Park research laboratory, the largest of EPA’s research labs.  As a major energy and water consulting services provider, MACTEC also provides energy auditing, analysis, and design services to federal, commercial, and industrial customers worldwide, services which mirror the Labs21 objectives.

“MACTEC is honored to join the ranks of corporate, academic, and government pioneers leading the way to sustainable laboratory design,” said Pagett.  “We’re committed to improving energy and water efficiency, encouraging the use of renewable energy sources, and promoting environmental stewardship in our nation’s labs.  By supporting Labs21, we look forward to becoming a part of great things, in part by tapping into a whole network of organizations with similar environmental goals.”

MACTEC (www.mactec.com), based in Alpharetta, GA, is a leading engineering and design, environmental, and construction firm focused on four strategic business lines: Industrial/Commercial, Infrastructure (Transportation and Municipal), Energy, and Federal.  MACTEC offers an ever-broadening portfolio of sustainable solutions, from renewable energy to facility asset management.  With annual revenues of more than $440 million, MACTEC’s 2,700-plus employees work from over 70 offices nationwide.
