KONEXX UNVEILS ModemMinder

SAN DIEGO, CA, Oct. 29, 1998 - KONEXX, a leader in computer-telephone connectivity products, today introduces ModemMinder, a compact plug-in device that protects analog modems from hazardous higher voltage encountered on digital PBX telephone lines in hotels and office buildings.

"While most modems in use today are designed for connection to analog telephone lines, the digital PBX lines found in many hotels and office buildings have electrical voltage more than ten times higher. Most modem do not cover failures due to exposure to excessive current. The ModemMinder (patent pending), weighing less than an ounce, is plugged between the modem and the telephone line, preventing a modem from connecting to an unsafe line," explains KONEXX Vice President Alan Gutzmer. "This new product is very versatile. It is especially useful for people who rely on their laptop or mobile computers and cannot afford downtime when using unknown analog or digital phone lines." ModemMinder is fool proof. The user does not have to press any buttons to check the lines since its advanced protection circuitry is monitoring line conditions at all times. The user also does not have to throw any switches or connect to any coupling devices to orient the polarity. Compact in size - just one and a quarter inches wide, one inch high and three inches long - ModemMinder is easy to install and use. It comes with two RJ11 phone jacks: one labeled "phone line", the other, "modem". If a user accidentally plugs in ModemMinder backwards, the modem will not be damaged - there is simply no phone line connection. Once installed, ModemMinder provides continuous protection from hazardous current and voltage surges and never needs to be disconnected from the telephone line.

ModemMinder will be offered at $39.00 directly from KONEXX and through global reseller channels. For more information on ordering ModemMinder, contact the sales department at KONEXX at (619) 622-1400; log on to the company's Web site at www.konexx.com, or send e-mail to sales@konnexx.com.
