POWAY, CA, April 3, 2014 – Orca Systems, Inc. (www.orcasystems.com), a fabless semiconductor company based in Poway, Calif., will be demonstrating its silicon (ORC5620) and software solution for receiving live digital TV on connected home devices at NAB 2014 in Las Vegas, NV, April 7 – 10, meeting room SU12525MR (Upper South Hall).
The solution enables consumers to watch high definition TV on their large screen, high resolution tablets anywhere in the world without touching their data plans. ORC5620 is a single-chip, CMOS-based, hybrid TV tuner with a built-in analog demodulator and software configurable digital TV demodulator that can receive analog and digital signals from either terrestrial or cable networks, worldwide.
The chip supports a broad range of analog/digital standards including NTSC/PAL/SECAM, ATSC/QAM, DVB-T/C, DTMB and ISDB-T that can be programmed on-demand in the field, thereby enabling OEMs to have a single global hardware platform. The chip can be integrated within tablets to receive TV programs or can be integrated in a gateway/accessory that receives programs from terrestrial/cable networks and beams these programs via Wi-Fi to all connected devices in the home.
According to Kevin Krewell, principal analyst for Tirias Research, adoption of HDTV reception in tablets is growing due to the increased screen resolution and size. It is further expected to increase as ATSC adopts the ATSC2.0 standard and broadcasters bring interactive content to the living room.
"Orca's new single chip tuner and multi-region demodulator in a package should further accelerate TV adoption in tablets by providing low power dissipation, multi-region support and superior reception performance" said Krewell.
A complete set of documentation and design materials is available now. CE Manufacturers, OEMs/ODMs and Application Developers interested in booking a meeting should contact sales@orcasystems.com.
