SANTA CLARA, CA - (Marketwired - April 07, 2015) - Well-known information security expert Cesare Garlati today joins the prpl Foundation as Chief Security Strategist. Garlati will assist the Foundation with security strategy in the newly formed Security PEG (prpl Engineering Group), a working group dedicated to creating an open standard framework that addresses next-generation security requirements for connected devices.
"Cesare Garlati is an internationally renowned leader in the mobile security space," said prpl Foundation president Art Swift. "We all look forward to his contributions in security strategy and his participation in the ground-breaking Security PEG."
"Stronger security is essential -- for consumer electronics, mobile, IoT, and beyond. The consensus is that traditional security software must be complemented with more resilient hardware solutions. The good news is that the explosion in processing power now makes it possible to move down the stack some of the traditional security layers to provide stronger security directly at the silicon level. This is a game changer for the overall security ecosystem. I am very excited to join the prpl Foundation to help drive this next wave of innovation," said Garlati.
Garlati is the former vice president of mobile security at Trend Micro and currently serves as co-chair of the Cloud Security Alliance Mobile Working Group. He also serves as an advisory board member at CUPP Computing, a provider of mobile security solutions for smart phones and tablets. Prior to Trend Micro, Garlati held director positions with leading mobility companies such as iPass, Smith Micro Software and WaveMarket. Prior to that, he was senior manager of product development at Oracle, where he led the development of Oracle's first cloud application and many other modules of the Oracle E-Business Suite.
Garlati is frequently quoted in the press and is noted for his thought-leading presentations at Mobile World Congress, the Gartner Security Summits, IDC CIO Forums, CTIA Applications, the CSA Congress and various RSA Conferences. Garlati holds an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley and a BS in Computer Science from Politecnico di Milano in Milan, Italy.
