SDR FORUM WILL HOLD DAY-LONG WORKSHOP ON SCA TOOLS/TECHNIQUES PRIOR TO 3-DAY GENERAL MEETING

DENVER, CO, May 22, 2007 -- The Software Defined Radio (SDR) Forum, (www.sdrforum.org), a nonprofit international industry association for reconfigurable wireless technology, will conduct an all-day workshop on Software Communications Architecture (SCA) tools and techniques on Monday, June 18, in Portland, Ore. The workshop will be followed by the Forum's general meeting (June 19-21), at which SDR development leaders from around the world will gather to discuss key issues related to the technology and its deployment.

The workshop will feature presentations by SCA experts from such companies as PrismTech, Communications Research Centre Canada, Mercury Computer, and Objective Interface Systems - all members of the SDR Forum. Developed by the Modular Software-Programmable Radio Consortium for the Department of Defense's JTRS (Joint Tactical Radio System) program, SCA tools and techniques play a major role in optimizing SDR technology.

The three-day general meeting will include sessions on SDR for commercial, public safety and avionics applications; cognitive radio; research and development; and design process. In addition, focused plenary sessions will address the business aspects of the Forum, management of work, and approval of documents. Guest speakers at the opening plenary Tuesday morning (June 19) will be Mike Zanon, director of the Oregon Wireless Interoperability Network, the department of the Oregon State Police responsible for providing professional levels of wireless communications to state agencies, and Jeffrey D. Johnson, fire chief and CEO of Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue, which provides fire protection and emergency medical services to one of the fastest growing regions in Oregon.

The workshop and general meeting will both take place at the Marriott Portland Downtown Waterfront and are open to anyone interested in SDR technology, including non-Forum members.
