TUBITAK UEKAE JOINS SDR FORUM

DENVER, CO, Nov. 2, 2007 -- The SDR Forum announced today that TUBITAK UEKAE (www.uekae.tubitak.gov.tr) has joined the Forum as a new member. Kocaeli, Turkey-based TUBITAK UEKAE, the National Research Institute of Electronics and Cryptology, is an affiliate of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), which is a government organization.

TUBITAK UEKAE produces and applies scientific and technological solutions in a wide variety of areas, including information security, communications, cryptographic algorithm design, EMC/TEMPEST tests, microelectronics, optoelectronics and speech technologies. The organization frequently partners with leading universities, private sector companies and government agencies both in Turkey and around the world.

According to Ibrahim Olcer, chief researcher and project manager, Turkey's Ministry of Defense is establishing a new test center to test and evaluate SDR products that will eventually be introduced nationwide.

"ASELSAN, the leading Turkish RF product manufacturer, is going to supply SDRs to the Turkish Army," Olcer said. "A four-year project by TUBITAK UEKAE will provide the necessary test infrastructure and advanced R&D facilities for software defined radio, and may include facilities for cognitive radio. We thus decided to join the SDR Forum as the organization provides us with access to leading industry experts from both the public and private sector. We also hope to meet experts from companies doing work related to SCA compliant waveform development and share our experiences."

Olcer added that since TUBITAK UEKAE has begun developing a universal test bed for SCA compliance, the organization also hopes to take a more active role in standardization activities in the SDR community via its SDR Forum membership.

"The SDR Forum is excited to have TUBITAK UEKAE join its growing list of European members focused on Tactical Radio Communications", stated Lee Pucker, CEO of the SDR Forum. "By collaborating at the SDR Forum, in cooperation with organizations such as NATO and the EDA, these member organizations can leverage lessons learned to reduce development cost and time to deployment in future radio-centric programs."

More information on joining the SDR Forum will be available at the SDR Forum's annual technical conference, product exposition and general meeting - being held at the Denver Marriott Tech Center Nov. 5-9. The international gathering will provide an international perspective of the current state of the art for advanced wireless communications and is open to anyone interested in SDR technology. Complete details and registration information are available on the web at www.sdrforum.org/pages/sdr07/forumMeeting_sdr07_main.asp.
