AUSTIN, June 19, 2014 – Suvola announced today a technology alliance with Freescale® Semiconductor to develop technology designed to accelerate cloud infrastructure workloads based on Freescale's QorIQ® multicore SoC (System on Chip) products. The alliance also includes a capital investment by Freescale in Suvola.
According to Suvola CEO/Co-founder Christopher M. Piedmonte, the next generation of cloud infrastructure technology is poised to more effectively tackle the issues of cost-performance, scalability, reliability, power consumption, and space. Suvola will work closely with Freescale to design and develop technology that will help open and enhance the market for systems leveraging Freescale's QorIQ® SoC products.
"With the rapid growth of the cloud infrastructure market, we see a huge opportunity in collaborating with Freescale on workload acceleration for this next generation," said Piedmonte. "These new systems, combined with Suvola's software designed specifically for the Freescale QorIQ® products, have the potential to disrupt the computer industry in a manner as significantly as the x86 architecture did 30 years ago."
"The cloud infrastructure revolution won't happen overnight, but it's well under way," added Kevin Krewell, principal analyst for market research firm Tirias Research. "New and more complex computing tasks, especially those involving Big Data analytics, may also accelerate development and market acceptance."
"The range of workloads that can be tackled by Freescale products is rapidly expanding," said Tom Deitrich, SVP and GM for Freescale's Digital Networking group. "We're seeing more workloads, driven by demands from mobile technology and the coming Internet of Things that can be distributed across SoC-based cloud infrastructure clusters and processed in parallel; our collaboration with Suvola will help facilitate Freescale's penetration of this rapidly emerging market."
Austin-based Suvola provides enterprise infrastructure software specifically designed for the SoC-based cloud infrastructure market in the areas of systems management, secured web application delivery services and Big Data processing for strategic and tactical business analytics.
