Adesto memories achieve up to 80% energy savings; open source code and documentation for Silicon Labs' EFM32 Leopard Gecko Starter Kit available free-of-charge
SUNNYVALE, CA - August 23, 2016 – Adesto Technologies (NASDAQ: IOTS), a leading provider of application-specific, ultra-low power non-volatile memory (NVM) products, has teamed with Embedded Masters, a leading provider of engineering services and development boards for the Internet of Things (IoT), to help developers of Adesto-based products get products to market faster and at lower cost. The companies' work demonstrates that developers can achieve up to 80% energy savings when using Adesto's Flash memories compared to standard Flash memory devices.
Adesto and Embedded Masters wrote and tested native low-level Flash firmware drivers and application programming interface (API) software routines for a range of Adesto memory IC breakout boards with the Silicon Labs EFM32 Leopard Gecko Starter Kit. The companies used the Energy Profiler provided in Silicon Labs' Simplicity Studio to demonstrate the efficiency of Adesto's memories. The open source software code examples and documentation based on this work, including a Porting Guide, are available free-of-charge. The proven source code can be used to easily port Adesto Flash firmware drivers to other platforms.
According to Gideon Intrater, CTO, Adesto, "Yesterday's power hungry non-volatile memory (NVM) solutions just won't work for tomorrow's ultra-low power IoT devices. While smart SPI flash memories can help, it's not enough. Adesto's breakthrough memory technologies solve the challenge. We've developed a new type of NVM called CBRAM that is fundamentally low-energy. We've also taught new tricks to our NOR Flash technology that decrease power consumption, improve performance and reduce system costs. With Embedded Masters, we're demonstrating these achievements with repeatable system-level testing on a third-party platform."
Frank Roberts, President, and CEO of Embedded Masters said, "While the term 'IoT' may be new to some, we've been developing such products for many years. During that time, memory technology has not evolved to support low-power systems. Now, the emergence of new categories of ultra-low power IoT devices necessitates a change and Adesto's memory technologies are leading the way. The unique features in Adesto's Flash memories make our embedded systems faster, more cost-effective, and lower power compared to other memories."
Adesto memory IC breakout boards for a range of its flash memories can be directly soldered onto a prototype PCB, used with a breadboard, or plugged into one of the Embedded Masters Sensor Plug in Boards. Firmware drivers and API software routines for the Silicon Labs EFM32 Leopard Gecko Starter Kit (EFM32LG-STK3600) including the Porting Guide, can be found at: http://embeddedmasters.github.io/AdestoSerialFlashDemo. Using the Energy Profiler provided in Silicon Labs' Simplicity Studio, users can directly measure the current consumption of the system while using Adesto's serial memory devices.
