Harte-Hanks Announces Major Expansion of CI Technology Database: More Than 4 Million Businesses Profiled

SAN DIEGO, CA – June 29, 2010Harte-Hanks, Inc. (NYSE:HHS), a worldwide direct and targeted marketing company, has launched a major expansion of its flagship product, the Ci Technology Database™ (CiTDB).  The CiTDB, among the largest and most comprehensive databases of its kind, now provides insight into technology installations, buying potential, and business demographics for more than four million locations (up from five hundred thousand) and identifies over five million (up from 1.2 million) IT-specific decision-makers in the United States and Canada.

“Our customers were looking for a cost-effective way to reach the broader market consuming technology products and services in North America,” said Tino Kokkinos, managing director of the Market Intelligence division of Harte-Hanks.  “By expanding the CiTDB footprint to include more businesses, we can now help our clients zero in on the most profitable segments of the market for their particular offering.”

“Harte-Hanks Ci Technology Database is a key source of data used by IBM sales & marketing teams,” according to David Higgins, vice president, Worldwide Database Marketing, IBM Demand Programs.  “It has proven to be a reliable source, delivering value in our marketing programs.”

TELUS Communications is another long-term Harte-Hanks customer who plans to use the new CiTDB to expand its reach for telecommunications services into the Canadian mid-market.  “With the new CiTDB, Harte-Hanks has given us the ability to reach the middle market in a way that is both timely and cost-effective,” says Brad Pruner, director, Demand Centre, TELUS Business Marketing. “Based on their years of experience and the intelligence they have gathered on the technology market, they can show me where to direct my marketing programs and dollars while avoiding those businesses that are least likely to have an interest in our service.”

Harte-Hanks compiles information for the newly expanded CiTDB from a variety of sources including its own syndicated surveys used to collect critical intelligence such as type of technology installed at a business location, technology purchase plans and local decision-makers.  Harte-Hanks combines data from these ongoing surveys (fifty thousand per month) with detailed technology profiles on over one million businesses to score every business in the database based on the likelihood that the location has installed or intends to purchase a particular technology.  These scores are currently available for 34 types of technology in five major categories: computer hardware, software, storage, telecommunications and networking.

“Because of the sheer volume of contacts available in the market today, our customers were confused about how to target them effectively,” said Randy Ilas, vice president of product development at Harte-Hanks. “We went to great lengths to evaluate all of the available sources and compile what we believe to be the most actionable set of contacts for technology vendors available.  As a result, our customers are more likely to reach the right decision-makers in the right business at the right time – the time when they are most likely to be making a purchase decision.”

The newly expanded CiTDB also includes more than five million business and IT contacts.  Harte-Hanks used a multi-source approach to compile a comprehensive list of business and IT contacts most likely to be involved in the technology purchase process at each location.

Harte-Hanks plans to further expand the CiTDB to include additional technologies in the areas of cloud computing, mobility and green IT in the near future.  There are also plans to expand the CiTDB to include more businesses in Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific in 2011.
