IMAGINATION TECHNOLOGIES TO DEMONSTRATE FULLY ACCELERATED FLASH LITE EXPERIENCE AT MWC 2009

MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS, BARCELONA, Feb. 16, 2009 -- Imagination Technologies, the leader in semiconductor System on Chip Intellectual Property (SoC IP), is demonstrating a POWERVR SGX GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) with accelerated Adobe Flash Lite technology utilizing OpenVG at MWC 2009 in Barcelona (Feb 16-19).

Tony King-Smith, VP marketing, Imagination Technologies, says: "This demonstration, the latest product of the strong relationship between Imagination and Adobe, shows the value of OpenVG acceleration for Flash Lite, the key Flash technology for mobile devices such as phones and portable media players. We are delighted to be working with Adobe to show how beneficial hardware acceleration of Flash using open standards such as OpenVG can be." The demonstration (at Imagination's stand, Hall 2 #2A05) runs on POWERVR SGX, Imagination's shader-based GPU IP core family, which delivers outstanding vector graphics processing as well as exceptional 3D and 2D performance. Imagination's POWERVR graphics and video processing technologies are now shipping in over 100 cell phones, 50 MIDs and leading portable media players, giving them the ability to deliver significant enhancements to the mobile Internet experience.

"Accelerating Flash Lite using OpenVG not only ensures the best possible user experience with larger screen sizes and more sophisticated content, but also saves power and reduces host CPU load," says Danny Winokur, senior director, Business Development, Flash Platform at Adobe. "We've been delighted with the performance improvements our engineering team has achieved, guided by Imagination's OpenVG graphics experts. The growing base of chips with POWERVR SGX ensures we can deploy this to the widest possible user base."

Accelerating all aspects of the browser's graphics and video experience is a key goal for Imagination, which demonstrated a prototype Flash Player 10 utilizing POWERVR SGX graphics processing at CES 2009 in January. POWERVR graphics and video acceleration technologies can accelerate any video and graphics content delivered using industry standards such as the Adobe Flash Platform.

The Adobe Flash Platform is the de facto standard for delivering breakthrough applications, content and video on the Web. Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Flash Lite are on over 98 percent of connected computers and close to 1 billion mobile devices, and deliver more than 80 percent of Web video worldwide, ensuring that content and applications are presented consistently in the format users want.
