Imagination’s Ensigma IP Provides Global Broadcast TV Demodulation in New Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 802 Processor

LONDON, Jan. 7, 2014 – Imagination Technologies (IMG.L) announces that its Ensigma radio communications processing (RPU) IP is integrated in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 802 Ultra HD processor designed for smart TVs, set-top-boxes and digital media adapters from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM). The Ensigma RPU from Imagination Technologies performs global broadcast TV demodulation functions in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 802 processor that integrates Qualcomm Technologies' own in-house designed Adreno™ GPU, CPU, video core, Bluetooth and WiFi technologies.

The Ensigma IP is the leading multi-standard DTV demodulation technology, providing companies like Qualcomm Technologies with production-ready implementations of the industry's broadest array of global TV reception standards. Ensigma RPUs provide a unique universal and highly scalable solution for integrating multi-standard connectivity and global broadcast communications capabilities into SoCs. The flexible hardware architecture of Ensigma RPUs means that the engine can be easily scaled to address everything from the smallest most cost-sensitive embedded connected processors to the most advanced connected smart TVs or tablets targeting global markets.

Says Martin Woodhead, EVP engineering for Ensigma, Imagination:

"We're delighted that Qualcomm Technologies is deploying our Ensigma IP for its innovative new chip. Our Ensigma RPUs uniquely support all major TV broadcast standards, and are gaining growing traction in the market as connectivity and broadcast functions are increasingly integrated onto SoCs."
