MACTEC NAMES EIGHT NEW VICE PRESIDENTS

ALPHARETTA, GA, Sept. 9, 2009 -- MACTEC Engineering and Consulting (MACTEC) has promoted Jerry A. Archer, Allen J. Ikalainen, Michael A. Jacobvitz, Jeff R. Keaton, Richard P. Leone, Ann B. Shortelle, Michael D. Sufnarski, and Nelson Walter to vice president. Allen Kibler, President of MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc., made the announcement.

Jerry A. Archer, P.G.

Archer is based in Knoxville, TN and serves as area manager for five offices in Tennessee, Kentucky and southwest Virginia. He has more than 28 years experience; his background includes expertise in environmental remediation, geo-environmental, hydrogeology, archeology, and regulatory compliance.

Since 2008, Archer has led MACTEC's North Division's initiative on coal combustion products, including a complete portfolio of services that assist utility clients in managing energy-related residuals.

Archer holds a M.S. in Geology from Texas A&M University, and a B.S. in Geology from Tennessee Tech.

Allen J. Ikalainen, P.E.

Ikalainen is based in the firm's Wakefield, MA office and spearheads operations for three of MACTEC's New England offices. He has more than 30 years experience in both the private sector and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. His background includes program/project management and engineering assignments related to remediation of contaminated sediments, waste site cleanup, and dredge/fill issues.Ikalainen has a M.S. in environmental engineering from Northeastern University and a B.S. in civil engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Michael A. Jacobvitz, P.G.

Jacobvitz joined MACTEC in 1987 and is based in Pleasanton, CA in the San Francisco Bay Area. His most recent appointment was Federal business development manager for the Western Division.Project successes include technical assistance during land transfer at Oakland Army Base and at Fort Ord in Salinas, CA. Jacobvitz managed restoration work at the Presidio of San Francisco, assisting the Presidio Trust with multiple site investigations and cleanup. He was also instrumental in securing our initial contract for air quality monitoring at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard.Michael is a California-registered Professional Geologist. He earned his M.S. in earth sciences from University of California, Santa Cruz; his B.S. in geology from Oregon State College; and a B.S. in English and a certificate in construction management from University of California, Berkeley.

Jeff R. Keaton, Ph.D.

Keaton is based in MACTEC's Los Angeles office and joined the firm in 2005. For almost 40 years, he has provided consulting engineering geology services for a variety of clients and projects on five continents. Keaton specializes in quantifying hazardous natural processes for siting and design.Keaton has served as president of the Association of Engineering Geologists; chairperson for the Geological Society of America and the Transportation Research Board; and committee member for the American Society of Civil Engineers.Keaton is licensed as a geologist and engineer in several western states, including Alaska. He earned his Ph.D. in geology from Texas A&M University, his M.S. in engineering (soil mechanics) from UCLA, and his B.S. in geological engineering from the University of Arizona.

Richard P. Leone

Leone has been with the firm since 1996 and since 2006, has served as Raleigh office manager. He served in a similar capacity overseeing daily operations, marketing and administrative functions for MACTEC's Greensboro, NC office. Leone has 22 years of experience in industrial hygiene, environmental investigation, and site/facility assessment. His areas of expertise are indoor air quality services, asbestos services, Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, and underground-storage tank (UST) removal. Leone received a B.S. in environmental science and zoology from Northern Arizona University. He holds a Field Method Certification – USEPA SW-846 Immunoassay Methods 4010/4020/4030/4035/Hazardous Waste Contaminated Sites.

Ann B. Shortelle, Ph.D.

Shortelle is based in the firm's Gainesville, FL office. She joined MACTEC in 1988 and has served as a chief scientist, senior principal and senior project manager. Shortelle has more than 20 years experience in limnology, lake and reservoir management, and ecological and environmental risk assessment. She is involved with all manner of salt, fresh, and contaminated water, including projects for siting and licensing, NEPA field monitoring, bio- and eco-modeling, and toxicology.Shortelle has authored/ co-authored more than 40 publications and presentations on environmental and ecological topics. Shortelle is a member of the North American Lake Management Society, the American Water Resources Association, and other professional organizations. She holds a Ph.D. in limnology from the University of Notre Dame and a B.S. in biology from Mercer University.

Michael D. Sufnarski, P.E.

Sufnarski joined MACTEC in 2003 and has served as operations manager and business unit leader of the engineered construction group. He was promoted to Charlotte office manager in April 2008.Sufnarski has more than 17 years experience in both the public and private sector. He served for over a decade as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, leading disaster-recovery and rebuilding efforts in the wake of hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma.Recently, Sufnarski managed three nuclear safety-related projects involving geotechnical, geophysical, environmental, and laboratory testing services.Sufnarski is a registered Professional Engineer in both North Carolina and Texas, and is LEED™ accredited. He holds a B.S. in civil engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a M.S.E. in environmental and water resources engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

Nelson Walter, P.E., LEP, LSP

Based in Portland, ME and with MACTEC since 1986, Walter previously served as senior principal project manager. He is an environmental and site specialist who has been able to bring regulatory closure to several of the nation's most complex remediation projects.Walter's technical background includes expertise in chemical and radiological contamination. He has managed multimillion-dollar projects from site investigation through engineering study to joint MEC-MDC design/build and cleanup.Walter holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is a frequent contributor at events related to chemical and radiological programs and trends.
