HOUSTON, June 30, 2009 -- Network Box Corp., a worldwide managed security service provider, has introduced an integrated intrusion detection and prevention system (IDPS) that merges existing Internet security approaches into a single unified platform, according to the company's American arm, Network Box USA, Inc. (www.networkboxusa.com). The new system will be part of the firmware for Network Box's unified threat management (UTM) appliance.
A security-industry first, Network Box's new IDPS combines passive and active detection with intrusion prevention to create a single high-performance protection model. Moreover, the system can be tailored to specific customer requirements, and those of separate groups within a customer's organization, through the configuration of individual Network Box UTM devices.
The IDPS separates protection into configurable layers responsible for implementing protection such as DDoS (distributed denial-of-service), protocol analysis, and stream pattern recognition. As part of this defense, the system uses the open-source Snort engine, extensively modified to fit into the Network Box security, logging and management framework. This enables the use of industry-standard format signatures and heuristics. It also provides a powerful rules language as well as more stream and protocol decoders. All these features integrate with each other and with Network Box's security model to create a potent single security platform.
To provide visibility, logging is incorporated into the Network Box global monitoring system - which can be accessed via the customer portal - and included in the system's periodic reporting and administrative interface.
"Protecting against the intrusion of network worms, exploits and other such attacks should be a vital component of any organization's security program," said Pierluigi Stella, CTO of Network Box USA. "The integrated approach that Network Box is taking with this unique new intrusion detection and prevention system provides better overall defense against intrusions because of its great synergy - with all the technology and tools working together."
