Digital Whiteboard Alternative

According to QuirkLogic, Quilla is the world’s first digital writing solution for real-time ideation. Now on display at CES 2018, the system is a lightweight device with a rechargeable battery designed to replicate the feel of paper and pen — without interfering with creative spontaneity.

“It allows participants to focus on the creative process, and not the technology — which just fades into the background,” says company co-founder and CEO Nashir Samanani.

The idea certainly sounds promising: The portable device, which looks like a whiteboard, allows teams to make use of ad-hoc spaces for interaction, without the need to be tethered to bulky conference room equipment. Users can walk up, grab a pen and comfortably brainstorm ideas, actions and plans — and, thanks to automatic content saving, subsequently pick up where they left off. Remote participants can also collaborate with others in real time through centralized library and workbook sharing, enabled by an “intelligent connected ecosystem” that does the heavy lifting behind the scenes.

The device’s intuitive design also includes discoverable contextual menus — a user can touch to copy, move, erase and zoom. Quilla offers an unlimited supply of workbooks and pages, and work space that can be expanded from a single surface to multiple connected surfaces.

New features are also planned for Q1 2018, including the ability to import higher-quality images and large PDF files, a new web portal interface and an authenticator that allows users to sign in to the system via Android or iOS devices.
