Aug. 26, 2019: ideamensch

Moustapha Tadlaoui

CEO of Visure Solutions

Trust your coworkers and give them space to express their ideas, to fulfill their personality, and take initiatives.

Dr. Moustapha Tadlaoui is a member of the founding team of Visure Solutions, Inc. As the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Tadlaoui has set the corporate vision and mission for Visure Solutions, Inc. The requirements ALM Platform company, which is focused on driving strategic business growth through the expansion of comprehensive sample management solutions, the development of strategic partnerships and the growth of business operations within North America and for the rest of the world.

Prior to joining Visure Solutions, Inc, Dr. Tadlaoui spent nearly a decade with LDRA Technologies, Inc. a leading provider of software test and verification toolset. As vice president of sales, Moustapha established the LDRA brand first in the US and then in South America in the heavily regulated markets of avionics, defense, medical, and automotive where software testing is critical in proving software reliability.

Dr. Tadlaoui had a proven track record of sales and revenue growth serving as the head of sales and marketing. In these roles, he was responsible for overseeing multiple lines of management, leading market expansion into new industry sectors and geographies, developing partnerships and introducing new product line in the organization.

Previous to this, Moustapha co-founded ATTOL Testware in France, a software testing company for embedded and real-time systems. He then went on to launch and develop ATTOL’s European business, building revenue and customer base and leading the company through its acquisition by Rational Software Corporation (now IBM Rational) in 2001. After successfully transitioning ATTOL technology to Rational offices in the US, Australia, and Japan, Moustapha, an entrepreneur at heart, created and set up US offices for LDRA.

Within these organizations he has managed a significant number of operational staff in the areas of corporate business development, sales and marketing.

What are you working on right now?

We are always working hard at Visure Solutions. Recently, we delivered to the System Engineering marketplace a tool that fits customer needs. We’re now moving to the scaling phase which includes:

  • Setting up sales offices, one in East coast (VA) and another one in West coast (WA), and plans to open two additional offices, in TX and in FL.
  • Scaling internationally: We already opened an office in Europe (France) and now, I am working on developing our distribution channel in EMEA.
  • Reseller agreement: We have just signed a reseller agreement with DAHAN to represent us in South Korea, and we are in talk with two serious candidates to represent us in China and Japan. We are also exploring partnership opportunities in India as well.
  • Existing distributors: Scaling launch of the new release to our exiting distributors in Sweden, Finland, Norway, Israel, Spain, China, South America, etc.
  • Accelerating innovation and building an Artificial Intelligent (AI) engine: This will be included in our ALM Platform for the automatic recognition of key aspects of requirements in any documents.

Where did the idea for building a Requirements Management ALM Platform for embedded systems/System Engineering come from?

Visure Solutions has recognized the importance and value of requirements engineering to our clients for many years, and we are proud to be the market share leader of Requirements Management point product providing the most effective Requirement Management tool for safety-critical and business-critical systems and cost effective solution). But:

  • The Embedded market installed base of Requirement Management is dominated by a first generation of rigid, heavy to use and highly customized legacy systems that are rapidly becoming obsolete. These systems are unable to adapt to new user requirements or support modern application and communication technologies.
  • Technologies have evolved and user expectations have changed, particularly with more applications accessed from different platforms, and the need for additional capabilities and tools used for different parts of lifecycle to be able to easily and seamlessly share information between stakeholders.
  • Today, there are lot of ALM solutions out there, but they all are focus on addressing the IT market need, because they don’t know how to address test management in embedded space and facilitate the automation the compliance of standards such as: ISO 26262, IEC 62304, GAMP5, FMEA, IEC 61508, CENELEC EN 50128, DO-178B/C, DO-254, ISO 13849 SPICE, CMMI and customer’s specific standard,
  • For Embedded Systems and System Engineering space, what is available is several isolated point solutions. I observed several customers struggling with the lack of integration between these tools (error-prone, manual work, friction between teams) and time-consuming.
  • Visure putting together one single integrated platform “Visure Requirements ALM Platform” to support several lifecycle managements activities including:
    • Requirement Management,
    • Bug & Issue Management,
    • Traceability Management,
    • Change Management
    • Risk Management,
    • Test Management,
    • Collaboration Management
      • Centralized data base
      • Requirements Review & Approval process (Collaborative Role-Based Sign-off approach)
    • Certification Management,
      • Support of various Standard Templates
      • TQP (Tool Qualification Pack)
    • Report Management
      • Dashboard,
      • Report Customization / Generation,
    • Quality Management,
    • Configuration Management,
      • Baselining,
      • History Tracking, Requirements Versioning (comparing requirement versions and Rolling them back),

All these factors have pushed the market to an inflection point where Visure has emerged as the breakthrough vendor, delivering the 1st advanced modern Requirements ALM Platform to properly address Embedded Systems and System Engineering industries.

The Visure strategy is to solve the current need of bringing to the market a one single Requirements ALM platform, capable of supporting different development lifecycle processes, and factoring all aspects of your system engineering development including product software, embedded software, electrical, mechanical and hardware requirements, and enterprise IT development.

The Visure value proposition is nothing less than the total innovative and disruptive technology in key functions, system performance, and solution economics for lifecycle management, enabling companies to better define and validate business needs, reduce development costs, comply with market standards, and deliver high quality products on time.

What does your typical day look like?

In my typical day there is never a dull moment. No two days are the same. I switch between short term, tactical issues and long-term vision and we are a high-growth startup so we all get to do a lot of different things. My main focus is to enable my team to develop and grow, so I also spend reasonable time supporting them and mentoring them.

We always put the customer first. I attend a lot of customer meetings to stay connected to their needs and feedbacks. I also try to squeeze in a gym or yoga session to keep grounded and energized about the future. And at the end of the day, half of my list of things-to-do is not done, so I have to do some work during the weekend.

How do you bring ideas to life?

Yoga and meditation are two opportunities for me to replenishing spirit and are ideal moments for recharging batteries. They keep me grounded and energized about the execution and the vison a company couple of steps ahead. They help me rest and relax therefore new ideas and initiatives just come together to help gather strength and build solution and capacity to deliver.

What was the worst job you ever had and what did you learn from it?

After my Ph.D. in computer science, I worked as a developer and technical lead at Verilog that have been acquired by Telelogic (Former DOORS provider), then Telelogic was acquired by IBM. I quickly realized that I was most interested in thinking through new solutions to solve customer problems and interested in coming up with new ideas to take the business development to another level. I always paid very close attentions to the market feedbacks, that I believe is the right way to build good product that fits customer needs. That’s when I started transitioning to the business side and contributed in building in the 90’s, a great start-up called Attol Testware specialize in unit testing, system testing and V&V (Verification & Validation) for embedded systems and real-time applications more specifically for Aero-Space & Defense industry (it was for Airbus). We sold Attol Testware to Rational Software corporation (that its turn have been acquired by IBM) and the technology was rebranded under the name of Rational Test Realtime. Prior to building Visure Solutions, Inc. I had the opportunity to work as employee for couple of companies and I realized that it was not for me. As an entrepreneur, I was obsessed by the idea of building a new start-up, founding a new team and creating and developing and anew innovative and easy to use technology.

If you were to start again, what would you do differently?

Become an entrepreneur earlier. Build teams, build new solutions, build new start-ups. All my previous jobs have prepared me for this, I realize that every experience has brought me to this point, and If you have a good business idea, don’t wait, go ahead and build your business now!

As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

Trust your coworkers and give them space to express their ideas, to fulfill their personality, and take initiatives. Empowering people to come up with great solutions and help them be the best version of themselves will make them happy and the company will always benefit from it.

Tell us a secret.

Avoid as much as you can to work for a family business. Keep business and pleasure separate.

What are your three favorite online tools and what do you love about them?

CRM tools: They help you collaborate with your co-workers and measure the performance of your sales force anywhere you are / they are.

Slack: The use of collaborative software in the work space creates a collaborative working environment, enabling the team to focus and achieve the company goals.

Visure ALM Platform: We use our technology internally to define the requirements of the new capabilities, prioritize them and use our tool just like our customers. We understand why hundreds of global companies and over 30,000 users rely daily on Visure Requirements ALM Platform… We are really proud of what we achieved.

What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

“How to transform Your Life” of Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

When things go wrong in your business and we encounter difficult situations, we tend to regard the situation itself as our problem, but in reality whatever the problem we experience come from the mind. If we were to respond to difficult situations with positive mind, they would not be problems for us. Indeed, we may even come to regard them as challenges or opportunities for growth and development.
Problems arise only if we respond to difficulties with negatives state of mind. Therefore, if we want to be happy and resolve many of your business problems, we must develop and maintain positive and peaceful mind.

What’s on your playlist?

America, The Animals, Aretha Franklin, The Beatles, Billy Joe, Black, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Carol King, Cat Stevens, Chris Rea, Crosby/Stills/Nash, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Dire Straits, The Doors, The Eagles, Elton, John, Elvis Presley, Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac, Genesis, Isaac Hayes, JJ Cale, James Taylor, Joe Cocker, The who, Lionel Richie, Louis Armstrong, Marvin Gaye, Miles Davis, Neil Diamond, Neil Young, Nina Simon, Otis Redding, Pink Floyd, Queen, Ray Charles, Roberta Flack, Rod Stewart, The Rolling Stones, Santana, Simon & Garfunkel, Simply Red, Sting, Supertramp, Tina Turner, Tom Joes, U2, Van Morrison, etc.

If you weren’t working on developing Visure Solutions, Inc, what would you be doing?

I would be sailing!

When was the last time you laughed out loud? What caused it?

Last weekend, my older daughter was giving me and my wife a yoga class. My wife made fun of my form in warrior II position and suggested she should fix me. Big family laugh.

I love to laugh out loud and do it every day. There is lot of out-loud laughing in Visure internal meetings!
