CLIENT: LUVIA

July 17, 2012: FINS from The Wall Street Journal

Dating Start-Up Luvia to Hire 40

Luvia, a San Diego dating site start-up, plans to hire up to 40 new employees by mid-2013. The company said it is in talks to raise venture capital.

Founded earlier this year, Luvia charges users for sending messages to potential love matches, not a monthly subscription fee. Users can receive free credits when their profile is viewed by other members or are contacted by them. The site also provides statistical information about users that it says will help members avoid wasting time sending messages to inactive members.

The company plans to hire for several senior management roles, including a vice president of marketing, a vice president of strategy, and a vice president of engineering. It will also be hiring front end engineers and user interface designers, as well as mobile engineers. The company will also hire sales and marketing professionals around the country.

Cash and equity compensation is competitive, said co-founder Sunmeet Gill. "We are looking to surround ourselves with smart and enthusiastic people on the software side," Gill said in an interview.

He declined to discuss the company's revenues, but said that the site does have paying customers.
